Diary of Events January to May 2008

Volunteer sessions are held on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10.30 until 13.00 or later depending on the weather. We provide drinks but please bring a packed lunch.
Please note that, when the Curator is in College, unlocking and locking the laboratory is the responsibility of the volunteers. Whilst the Committee will make every effort to ensure that someone will be there at 10.30 on Wednesdays and Fridays just occasionally this might not be possible. If you are locked out please first check outside, as we may be in the glasshouses or garden. Otherwise please telephone Judith Hughes (01248 670673) or Sarah Edgar (01286 674934).
There will be a small charge for all meetings (unless mentioned below): £1 for members, £2 for non-members, but note that students and children are free.
SOCIAL EVENING AT Y CABAN, BRYNREFAIL
Put aside your gardening gloves and secateurs and let’s get together to sample Y Caban’s excellent buffet. £12 per person, food based on local produce with vegetarian options.
To book your place please send a cheque, made out to Friends of Treborth Botanic Garden, to Sarah Edgar at the Garden by 7 February.

THE LEN BEER MEMORIAL LECTURE 2008
We are delighted that this year’s lecture will be given by Professor Stephen D Hopper, Director, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (title to be confirmed). See press and posters for further details nearer the time.

DAWN CHORUS
It is well worth the early rising to experience the dawn chorus, with a wide variety of birds combining to welcome the new day. Nigel Brown will be on hand to help you identify each species as they join in.

Time to think of spring planting. On offer will be a selection of herbaceous and hardy plants, alpines, shrubs and house plants.

VISIT TO NESS GARDENS
A coach trip to the University of Liverpool’s botanic garden. 62 acres of mature gardens with glasshouses, woodland, heather garden, terraces, rock, water and herb gardens. Please complete enclosed booking form and return to Kathy Rothwell by 1 April.

LATE SPRING PLANT SALEWe will have tender vegetables, tomato plants etc with herbs, perennials and biennials. Jams and pickles for sale, refreshments.
